I breathed deeply the fresh aroma of the sweet summer air. I smiled as I finished grooming my new colt. My newest project. A two year old arabian colt. He was bay with a star, a stockinga, and three socks. His bay coat seemed to have copper in it. What a gorgeous boy he was. I switched his halter to a training bridle with a training caveson on it. The gentle colt was used to the cool metal bit in his mouth. He'd had it in a million times before. I led him out to the round pen. I was going to teach Rocket about the weight and pressures of a saddle and girth today. I Grabbed off the rail of the arena a training surcingle. I gently set it correctly on his withers where the straps drapped down to his girth area. Quickly I lightly strapped it in place. I decided that I would go ahead and work with head set, so I went ahead and added straps to the bit to the surcingle.I was gentle with my touch and light with my movements. Ever so gently I tightened the surcingle. I let him go around the arena once to get out his bucks. He didn't buck, he just waited for my commands. I smiled. I pointed him to the left "Out" I instructed. He did as I asked of him. So far, so good. After I was positive he was warmed up on both directions. I quietly clucked to him. I put the lunge whip at a little faster speed, just to let him know what the cluck ment. This would probably be the last time I used a lunge whip with him. I smooched to him and quickened the lunge whip pace. He cantered. Boy, oh boy, did he have a nice canter. It was rythmic and looked oh so smooth. After finishing a few more loops in each direction I cooled him down and took the surcingle and draw reins off of him. I then groomed him and groomed him. I put him in his stall at Whispering Winds Equestrian Center. I walked off, happy with a successful training.
