Ahhhh. Sooo nice to sit down. I had just plunked down on a haybale in the hay building. I had done ALL the chores myself, which was not much seeing there was only 2 horses so far, the rest were still back at my old farm. Then a whole load of hay had come and I had to put them all away by hand all by myself. I had given Remi and Phir a couple days to relax and get used to the place, especcially Phir, who was 2 and had only been in one place his whole life until he came here, and that other place was where he was born. He completely adored it here though, he was curious like his father, but had love for people like his mother, and he loved learning and expieiencing new things. Those traits had become invaluable in his training, for as much as I enjoyed training him and teaching him, he was a trouble-maker, and a smart one at that. Either way, today I was going to lunge Remi, she was used to new places, but still I didn't want to push her today seeing Phir was going to get a training session today and I would need a bit of time for that. So I reluctantly got up and went out to the paddocks to fetch Remi. I brought her in and she was filthy. She must have been having a serious rolling session. So I groomed her as normal, but the dust was endless, so I used a trick I had found out about while one of my other horses was on stall rest. If you get your body/dandy brush damp, but only lightly damp so lightly damp you an barely feel the water, just barely, and have it only on the end of the bristles on the brush, and you brush your horse while using that brush and repeating the steps all the dust on your horse will be gone. I did that sucessfully, so I finished up grooming her and left to get her pegasus boots. I velcroed them on, grabbed a lunge line without a chain on it from off the wall, snapped it onto her halter, un-did the cross-ties and set off for the shadiest outdoor ring. Once in the middle I gave her some line and clucked. She immediately trotted out onto a wide circle. She started to canter, and I let her get all her bucks and excess energy out. Once settled, she cantered peacefully around on the lunge, her ears up though, getting reaquainted with the surroundings. Throughout the days I gave Remi and Phir off I had walked both around each of the rings multiple times, letting them get used to everything. Then Remi came to a comfortable trot, relaxed and graceful. Satisfied, I stuck my left hand out and said "turn". She stopped, swung around on her haunches, and went back to trotting on her circle, now going clockwise instead of counter clockwise. I kissed for her to canter so she picked up the right lead and kept cantering around. I then held out my right hand, and said "turn." She stopped on a dime, swung around on her haunches and picked up the canter without any strides of walk or trot in the middle. I told her good girl, that was a well performed roll-back, and I was impressed. I held out my hand and said whoa, and she came leisurely down to a halt and walked into the middle to join me. I put my hand under her chest. She really wasn't sweaty, so I brought her back to the barn. I put away the llunge line and her pegasus boots, then threw her back in her paddock with a peppermint and a kiss.
