My stallion welsh pony, Silver Sargent, is a shimmery white/grey.
To gain some fame for my newest pony (on Silver Creek Estate, my stables) i had decided to jump the young 4-year-old in a horse show. I was a very experienced rider, so i was up to the challenge of the fiesty little champion.
My mother and trainer leaned against the fence of the warm up ring as i walked Sargent in. He started pawing as soon as a stable-hand opened the gait. I knew my mom was whispering to my trainer that maybe Sargie was too strong for me, maybe i should just get off and ride one of my other mares and geldings.
But no, i kept my hands steady as Sargent tried a little bolt, spooking a chestnut mare. I turned him towards the rail, forcing him to stop. He neighed excitedly as i held him back in his energetic, hunter-style walk.
My trainer called for me to trot after a lap, and so i gently squeezed Sargie's sides. He took one step of the canter, but i pulled him back into his beautiful, smooth, hunter style trot, stretching his legs and pulling down his head in perfect pleasure gait. A little girl pointed at Sargent and giggled as he snorted.
After a little trotting, i eased my stallion into the canter. His fabulous gait was smooth, yet fast, and looked ever so "walking on air". I turned my best stallion's pink nose in ward across the diagnol, and he lept up into the air for a stunning lead change. Some people were gathering to watch my Sargie.
I walked Silver Sargent as my trainer walked in and set up some 3' 6" verticals, an easy feat for Sargent, who jumped excitedly as my trainer raised the bars. I saw a judge cast down her heavy shades to glance cooly at my large jump course, for such a small, devilishly handsome (this i think was the mares' thoughts) stallion welshie.
"Keep him smooth," My trainer told me. "He knows his stuff, the little devil." My trainer patted Sargent's glossy neck. He nickered contently.
"Got it." I said. "Come on, Sargie." I lead him to the outside and Sargent started a canter, completely unaware of the massive jump. I turned inward, and Sargent's ears pricked up. He saw the jump. leaning forward, we leaped over and landed effortlessly. The crowd applauded our excellence.
